Rockefeller building project passes one-year mark on schedule

The $39 million Rockefeller Arts Center addition and renovation project has passed the one-year mark and remains on schedule for completion by August of 2016. Project Shepherd Steve Rees said “diligent efforts” by many parties have kept the project on schedule.

Vocal group to share spotlight for Sept. 26 pops event

The Fredonia Voices, a talented vocal jazz octet, will step into the spotlight once again in King Concert Hall. The group will be among the featured performers when Rockefeller Arts Center presents, “An Evening of Ella and Ellington with The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra,” Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Children's Concerts begin Sept. 26 at Dunkirk Free Library

The Musical Journeys Program of the Fredonia School of Music kicks off its 10th season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children. Selected student ensembles will perform half-hour Children's Concerts on four Saturday mornings with two performances (one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m.) beginning on Sept. 26 at Dunkirk Free Library, 536 Central Ave. Future concert dates are on Nov. 7, March 5 and April 30.

’09 graduate returns to lecture about John Cage

School of Music alumnus John Green, ’09, will return to campus to present a free lecture on composer John Cage, considered to be perhaps the most polarizing figure in 20th century music. The talk, "John Cage's Water Walk: Comedy and Domesticity on Postwar Television," will be held in 2140 Mason Hall on Monday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.

Workshops, talk to explore crafting art out of invasive species

How to create art out of unwanted plants will be described by Patterson Clark, a visual journalist and science graphics editor with The Washington Post, at a visiting artist presentation and workshop series he will give from Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 23 to 25.

Fredonia to host residency, performance by Lehrer Dance

The internationally recognized Lehrer Dance Company will conduct a week-long residency, Sept. 14 to 18, that concludes with an informal presentation of works in development on Friday, Sept. at 5 p.m. in the Dods Hall dance studio.
