Music Therapy Club to host Sharon Katz and screening of 'When Voices Meet'

The 2015 World Music and Independent Film Festival winner of Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Original Soundtrack and Humanitarian Awards, “When Voices Meet,” is coming to Fredonia on Sept. 28. Following the film will be a question and answer session and performance with Sharon Katz, founder of The Peace Train project.

Finnish composer spotlighted at Oct. 13 concert

A Celebration of Kaija Saariaho: Natasha Farny and Friends is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Featured performers include the Fredonia Cello Choir, the ANA Trio, School of Music Lecturer Paul Coleman and cellist Dr. Natasha Farny.

Shanghai Quartet to be in-residence

Just after completing a 10-day tour of China, the Shanghai Quartet will be in residence at the Fredonia School of Music for five days, including classroom visits, solo and chamber music master classes, public talks and a greatly-anticipated performance in Rosch Recital Hall on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m.

Concerto Competition winners announced

The Fredonia School of Music held its annual Concerto Competition on May 3 in King Concert Hall, with student winners harpist Erin Baker of Orchard Park, baritone Michael Hawk of Fredonia and clarinetist Tyler Pfalzer of Kenmore. They will perform as soloists with a School of Music ensemble during the 2015-16 academic year.

Fredonia selects Baldwin Wallace University’s Unger to be new School of Music Director

Fredonia has named Dr. Melvin P. Unger as the new director of its world-renowned School of Music. Dr. Unger has served since 1998 as the director of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute within the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin Wallace University. He will begin at Fredonia on July 1, at which point current Director Karl Boelter, who has served admirably in this role since 2003, will join the Music faculty in the Composition area.

Student works in a variety of mediums to be featured in Marion Gallery

The Department of Visual Arts and New Media will celebrate its 11 graduating students beginning Friday, May 1 with the second senior show exhibition of the spring semester. Titled, “Con Artists,” the exhibition opens with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 1 in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery.

Graphic design and animation featured in Marion Gallery exhibition

More than a dozen graduating arts and new media majors will have works on display in an exhibition this April at the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. The exhibition, titled “Unconventional,” runs from Friday, April 17, through Wednesday, April 22.

Orchesis Dance Company performs in new venue for upcoming spring show

Orchesis Dance Company will present “Synergy” on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m., at the Fredonia Central High School auditorium. The annual show will feature many talented Fredonia student dancers and choreographers performing various genres of dance including modern, jazz, hip hop and tap.
