Traditional and contemporary African dance and music will be presented at a concert at the Fredonia by the Saakumu Dance Troupe and master musician Bernard Woma on Monday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall.
Music enthusiasts – especially those whose tastes go outside of conventional boundaries – are in for a rare treat when Fredonia’s Ethos New Music Society brings Randy George, one of a small handful of musicians in the world whose credentials include theremin virtuoso, to campus for a concert of new music on Friday, Feb. 20, 8 p.m., at Rosch Recital Hall.
The Kaleidoscope Family Series at Rockefeller Arts Center will present “The Vocal Illusions of Lynn Trefzger, Comedy Ventriloquist” on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre.Trefzger is a ventriloquist/comedienne with a trunk full of zany characters that accompany her to stages throughout the country.
The second week of February at the School of Music will feature several events showcasing the talents of Fredonia faculty members and guests artists of international acclaim. All events are free and open to the public.
Fredonia’s Ethos New Music Society will begin its Newsound Festival with a performance by Third Coast Percussion on Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.The group explores and expands the extraordinary sonic possibilities of the percussion repertoire, delivering exciting performances for audiences of all kinds.
The Visual Arts and New Media Department’s Visiting Artist, Adam Horowitz, will lead a lecture and workshop about Creative Placemaking and the efforts of the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, a non-governmental agency he created. The lecture is slated for Thursday, Feb. 12 at 8:30 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 209. The Creative Placemaking workshop will take place the next day.
Violinist Rachel Lee Priday will join the Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra for what is being called the orchestral event of the season on Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
Registration is now open for the spring sessions of Pathways to Music, a series of developmentally age-appropriate classes designed to teach the joy of music to children ages 6 months through 5 years old. Classes will begin Feb. 10 and 14, 2015, in the gymnasium of the Campus and Community Children’s Center.
Separate off-campus exhibits of temporary art created by two groups of Fredonia Visual Arts and New Media students will be held this weekend in Dunkirk and Fredonia.
Seven students enrolled in Fredonia’s Visual Arts and New Media's Film and Video Arts program had the honor of having their works screened at the national Student Experimental Film Festival held Dec. 5 and 6 at Binghamton University.
