Take Your Children to Work Day is April 25
What does Mom or Dad do at SUNY Fredonia?
That will be the intriguing question that children whose parents serve at SUNY Fredonia will be able to answer during “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day,” to be observed both on campus and across the nation on Thursday, April 25.
SUNY Fredonia President Virginia Horvath encourages the daughters and sons of staff members to use this day to discover what their parents do on campus. This year’s theme, “Work in Progress,” suggests an even bigger and brighter future lies ahead for children. The day encourages them to dream seemingly impossible dreams, explore new challenges and attain the success they have always hoped for in education, work, home and community.
Children, ages 7-16, are invited to campus to spend the morning with their parents to learn about their duties and responsibilities. At 11:30 a.m., children can join their parents for a buffet-style lunch offered free to children, courtesy of the Finance and Administration Department, at Erie Dining Hall, and then embark on a tour the campus. Adult Fred Funds lunch price is $7.25 cash; credit card price is $10. T-shirts will also be given to children at lunch.
In order to fully appreciate what a full day in the life of their mother or father entails, children are asked to complete the entire day with their parents. Attendance at lunch is optional.
Staff members are to obtain their supervisor’s permission to participate in the program. Registration forms, which include the employee’s name and children’s names, ages and shirt sizes, are to be completed and sent to: Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work, Attn. Katie Thies, FSA Office, 1 Gregory Hall, by April 19.
SUNY Fredonia conducted its first “Take Our Daughters to Work Day” in 1994; participation by sons was added a year later. This public education program is sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women, a not-for-profit charity that has supported women in the areas of health, safety and economic justice for more than 20 years.
