William Graebner (History, emeritus) just published (October 15) a book, Patty's Got a Gun: Patricia Hearst in 1970s America (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2008). The book has been discussed or reviewed in the Atlantic Monthly, the Economist, and Newsday. It is the first substantial reconsideration of Patty Hearst’s story in more than twenty-five years, William Graebner vividly re-creates the atmosphere of uncertainty and frustration of mid-1970s America.
Four students from the Integrated Marketing Communication class, along with a guest speaker from First Investors, will provide tips on various economic issues aimed at graduating students and community members. The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a Fall Concert at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19 at Fredonia High School Auditorium in Fredonia, N.Y. The concert is free, but the band would appreciate donations of non-perishable food that will be donated to the Food Pantry of the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry.
The first of four forums in the “Lundine Series” will focus on school consolidation Monday, Dec. 1, at 8 a.m. in Williams Center Room S104 at SUNY Fredonia. “This public discussion will complement the existing efforts to improve the efficiency of our school system in Chautauqua County,” said Chuck Cornell, director of the SUNY Fredonia Center for Rural Regional Development and Governance (CRRDG).
Under the direction of musician and faculty member John Bacon, the Fredonia Latin Jazz Ensemble will perform new arrangements of works by Horace Silver, Duke Ellington, and Pixinguinha in a concert on Monday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to students, faculty, and the general public.
The Fredonia Improv Collective is holding a concert on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, a member of the Fredonia School of Music faculty. Featuring music created in the moment, the event is free and open to the public.
