Lawson, Bleecher, and McCown receive President’s Awards

President Dennis L. Hefner will present the awards this year to Michael S. Bleecher, associate director of admissions; Holly J. Lawson, associate professor of chemistry; and Deborah McCown, office manager for the Faculty Student Association. President Hefner will also recognize SUNY Fredonia employees for years of service (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, or 45).

Residents invited to town hall forum on energy issues with local elected officials

As part of its Earth Day teach-in on April 22nd, SUNY Fredonia will host a town hall meeting on energy issues from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center. During the forum, Western New York residents can share their concerns about proposed energy projects with elected officials and their representatives.

Fredonia SIFE Team and Amnesty International to host music festival, Jamnesty 2009

The daylong music festival is to be held on April 25 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Barker Common Gazebo on Temple Street and Main Street in Fredonia. It will feature 11 bands from the SUNY Fredonia collegiate community. The event’s goal is to raise $500 to be used to build a well for fresh water for a community in Africa.

Poetry reading by faculty and students promotes ecological sensitivities at Earth Day event

SUNY Fredonia will host a reading event in celebration of Earth Day, featuring faculty and students reading poetry that promotes sustainability and ecological awareness. The event will take place Wednesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center. It is free and open to the public.

Regional workshop for educators held at SUNY Fredonia

This past Saturday SUNY Fredonia was host for an introductory workshop for chemistry instructors from throughout New York and Pennsylvania. The event introduced high school, college and university educators to POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), a research-based learning environment where students are actively engaged in mastering course content and developing essential skills by working in self-managed teams on guided inquiry activities.
