Terror in the Trees offers thrills and chills

Don't miss the ninth annual, “Terror in the Trees.” Guests will be able to experience Fredonia's popular haunted forest tour on the Thursday through Saturday nights which "book-end" Halloween. The event will take place Oct. 24 to 26 and Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 from 8 p.m. to midnight. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society.

Children's Concerts Series continues on Nov. 2 with Bassoon Quartet

The Musical Journeys Program of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music continues its eighth season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children. The next half-hour concert will be offered twice on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Dunkirk Free Library, 536 Central Ave., Dunkirk, at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Planned with the help of SUNY Fredonia faculty who are experts in music and education, the selected student ensemble concerts are designed to introduce very young audiences (from infants to 6-year-olds) to musical instruments.

Graduate School Fair and workshops to be offered by Career Development Office

The SUNY Fredonia Career Development Office will be hosting its annual Graduate School Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The event is a part of a two-day series of Graduate School events and workshops for students. More than 50 graduate programs have registered to participate in the fair representing a variety of industries and disciplines.

Latinos Unidos to host BombaYo! celebration this week

SUNY Fredonia will host BombaYo! for three lectures/workshops to celebrate the Afro Puerto Rican tradition of Bomba. The Latinos Unidos and Orchesis event will include a variety of Latin music for an interactive celebration. The first lecture/workshop is Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Rosch Recital Hall; the next on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room; and the third on Friday, Oct.11 in Mason Hall Room 1080. Each starts at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

FredASSIST hosts 'Sing for a Cure' benefit concert

“Sing for a Cure,” a fundraiser presenting a cappella singing groups well known on campus, personal testimonies from women battling breast cancer and a raffle, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The student group, Fredonia Association of Students for Safer Intimacy and STD Testing (FredASSIST), is staging the annual fundraiser in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Sigma Kappa host trivia night for Ultra Violet Campaign

SUNY Fredonia’s Sigma Kappa Sorority will be hosting a trivia night to raise money for its Ultra Violet Campaign, on Monday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The Ultra Violent Campaign helps to raise funds and awareness for Sigma Kappa philanthropic initiatives.

SUNY Fredonia Radio Systems to celebrate College Radio Day

Fredonia Radio Systems will be joining various college stations across the world to celebrate College Radio Day. The day will include live music by The Mooses, Buxom, Lo and Behold, and Zen as well as CD, posters and sticker giveaways, and a free concert is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 10 p.m., at The Spot in Tim Horton’s Café and Bake Shop in the Williams Center and broadcast on WCVF 88.9FM and WDVL 89.5, Fredonia Radio’s two stations.

Rosa Parks poster contest opportunity for students

The Center of Multicultural Affairs is sponsoring a poster competition as part of its 25th annual Rosa Parks Scholarship and Awards ceremony. The winner will receive $100 and his or her work will be used for promotional materials for the ceremony. All submissions are due to by Nov. 22 by 5 p.m.

Students to bring Spanish tomato fight to campus Sept. 28

Latinos Unidos and the Center for Multicultural Affairs will host its annual version of the Spanish tradition, La Tomatina -- including a real live tomato fight! Come to the Dods Hall Grove on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m., and enjoy raffle prizes, a photo booth, a capella singers, a bounce house, air brushed tattoos, cupcakes, “tomato art,” and of course, flying tomatoes. It's open to all campus and community members, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Beach cleanup rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22

Groups of volunteers from SUNY Fredonia will lead beach cleanups at Point Gratiot and Wright Park in Dunkirk on Sunday, Sept. 22, from noon to 2:30 p.m., as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s 28th International Coastal Cleanup Campaign. This is a rescheduled date due to a severe weather forecast for Sept. 21. SUNY Fredonia’s Academic Community Engagement (FACE) Center is directing the cleanup with assistance from the New York branch of the American Littoral Society and SUNY Fredonia’s Sustainability Committee and Office of Volunteer and Community Services.
