Some of the most beloved Christmas classics of all time will come to life once again in big band style at Fredonia when Rockefeller Arts Center presents “The 2014 Big Band Christmas Spectacular” on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance will present the third annual Madrigal Feaste dinner theater performance, held in the Williams Center. The traditional 15th century royal feast and musical program will be a feast for the senses, with authentic food, costumed performers, rousing music and merriment on a grand scale.
The 2014 Hillman Opera is a masterpiece of 20th century American music and theater. Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah” will be performed on Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. The opera tells an age-old morality tale using Appalachian folk music themes framed in operatic drama.
The Native American Student Union (NASU) at Fredonia will host Native American History month, featuring more than a half-dozen educational and enrichment events for the campus and community throughout November, to celebrate Native American history and culture. Lisa Marie Anselmi, an archaeologist and chair of the Department of Anthropology at SUNY Buffalo State, will deliver the opening address, “Indigenous Stereotypes: Past and Present,” on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m.
Many events will be offered during Family Weekend on Friday through Sunday, Oct. 24 to 26. Hypnotist Tom DeLuca, a four-time National College Entertainer of the Year, will perform on the stage of Rosch Recital Hall on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m., and the Scholars Breakfast will be held Saturday morning in Steele Hall. Fredonia’s annual “Terror in the Trees,” produced by the Interactive Theatre Society, will once again haunt the Ring Road Forest on Thursday, Oct. 23 and 30, Friday, Oct. 24 and 31, and Saturday, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. With the exception of Halloween night, the haunted, walk-through forest will be open from 8 p.m. until midnight. On "All Hallows Eve," the terror runs until 1 a.m.
Fredonia will host its seventh annual Veterans Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 7 at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony, honoring and remembering veterans and active duty military members of the Armed Services, will be held in the Multipurpose Room of Fredonia’s Williams Center. Students, staff and the local community are invited to attend.
Fredonia will host its ninth annual Double Reed Day on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Mason Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The day is designed specifically for middle and high school oboists and bassoonists to spend time working in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere with Fredonia's double reed faculty and students.

Note: As of noon today (9/18) - all tickets have been distributed for today's Convocation lecture by Bill Nye. For those holding tickets, doors to the fieldhouse will open at 2:30 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. lecture. As part of the semester-long celebration of the opening of its new Science Center, Fredonia will welcome world-renowned scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor Bill Nye “The Science Guy” to campus as the Convocation series keynote speaker. His Thursday, Sept. 18, 3:30 p.m. appearance is slated for the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. The 2014-15 Convocation series theme is, “The Joy of Discovery.”
