India's Lavanam to speak on Gandhian philosophy

Lavanam, a humanist, Gandhian, and atheist from India, will speak on Gandhian philosophy and milestones in his life on Thursday, Sept 23, at 7 p.m. in G26 McEwen Hall. Lavanam’s talk is titled, “Historical Perspective of Gandhi's Vision of the Future. The Role of Asia. Who Can Save the Future?” Lavanam, whose name means "salt" in the Sanskrit language, is an active Gandhian from India whom has participated and organized various social work projects, rehabilitation movements, and women empowerment reforms in his lifetime.

Constitution Week starts Wednesday with talk on why student voting will matter in 2010 elections

There are signs that younger voters will be turning out in low numbers in the upcoming statewide and congressional elections, Political Science Professor David Rankin said. He will moderate a discussion that includes student panelists on why the votes of students will matter in 2010. The event is Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in S. 104 Williams Center at SUNY Fredonia. It is free and all are welcome.

Arts professors Loughlin, Piorkowski earn coveted "distinguished" SUNY faculty rank

Two longtime Fredonia faculty members were among 24 promoted to distinguished ranks by the State University of New York Board of Trustees. James Piorkowski of the School of Music was promoted to Distinguished Professor and Tom Loughlin of the Theatre and Dance Department was promoted to Distinguished Teaching Professor.
