Spectrum Presents Concert Series: COVER UP

Students looking for an evening of entertainment are invited to join Spectrum as they present the first concert series of the semester called COVER UP on Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 7 to 9, in the Williams Center Mulitpurpose Room. The concert is free to all campus and community members and will be the first of three musical entertainment events presented throughout the semester by Spectrum.

The Fredonia Masterworks Chorus and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to perform ‘St. Matthew Passion’ on March 9

The Fredonia School of Music joins forces with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to present J.S. Bach’s masterwork, “St. Matthew Passion,” featuring the Fredonia Masterworks Chorus, the Chautauqua Youth Senior Chorus and the Chancel Choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Buffalo. The performance is slated for Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Ethos presents NewSound Festival of concerts, recitals and more

The 16th annual NewSound Festival will take center stage at Fredonia this spring. Hosted by the Ethos New Music Society, the festival will focus on contemporary performances and hold nine events featuring performers and composers including three Student Composer Concerts and six special guests: A/B Duo, Decho Ensemble, Acropolis Quintet, Jonathan Newman, Roomful of Teeth and Jennifer Higdon.

'Some Like it Hot' to host ACAFEST

The ninth invitational ACAFEST presented by “Some Like it Hot,” Fredonia’s all-female a cappella group, is slated for Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Th event will feature performances from on-campus a cappella groups “Much More Chill,” “Dynamic Intonation” and “Premium Blend,” and two guest groups from other universities.

GRAMMY-winning vocal ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, to perform

Fredonia’s Ethos New Music Society will be hosting a performance by Roomful of Teeth, a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to mining the expressive potential of the human voice, on Tuesday, March 15 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. As part of its residency, the group will also give a free lecture on Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.

Western New York art featured in next Marion Gallery exhibition

An exhibition of 112 works exploring the regions’ most extensive private collection of Western New York art will open Tuesday, Jan. 26 in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. “Archiving Western New York: Select Artists from the Gerald Mead Collection” will run through Feb. 28.

Get ready for ‘St. Matthew Passion’ at ‘Bach at Lunch’ series

Music lovers looking to “tune up” for the highly anticipated performance of “St. Matthew Passion” by the Buffalo Philharmonic at Fredonia are invited to “Bach at Lunch,” an informal mid-day series in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. An informal concert of Bach music will be presented on Wednesday, Feb. 24, and the talk “Appreciating Bach’s ‘Great Passion’” by Melvin Unger, director of the School of Music, will conclude the Bach lunch series on Wednesday, March 2.
