Dance program hosts residency by Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company

Students in Fredonia’s Dance program are literally “following the footsteps” of one of the leading forces in modern dance during the two-week residency by the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company. Many sessions are also open to community members, including the final event on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the Merrins Dance Theatre in the new addition to the Rockefeller Arts Center.

Student workshop to explore art/technology, create sculpture

+ Farm, a group of artists, architects, builders and digital fabricators that explores the boundaries between art and technology, will lead a workshop for students Friday through Sunday, Oct. 21-23, in the new sculpture studios of Rockefeller Arts Center as part of the grand opening weekend festivities.

1970s Fredonia jazz alumni return for Homecoming

As part of the 2016 Homecoming Celebration, the 1970s Fredonia Alumni Jazz Ensemble will return to campus Friday, Oct. 21 to present a free public concert at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The group will be joined by the 2016-2017 Fredonia Jazz Ensemble, led by Fredonia student Jesse Torres.

Marion Fellowship recipients to give artistic presentations

Eve Beglarian, Lynn Neuman and Joshua Davis ̶ 2015-2016 recipients of Cathy and Jesse Marion International Fellowship awards ̶ will give their artistic presentations on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Fredonia alumnus donates outdoor sculpture to campus

“Cutter,” a painted steel sculpture created by Eric Stein, ’74, has found a permanent home at Fredonia in the Science Quad as part of the Department of Visual Arts and New Media’s In Sight/On Site program. The formalistic, geometric sculpture, which features two thin discs and diagonal square rods, reflects an industrial design, with the rods cutting the discs into two pieces.

Pathways to Music series begins in September

Registration has begun for Pathways to Music, a series of unique classes offered by the Fredonia School of Music that provide opportunities for children and their parents to discover the joy of music together while singing, moving, listening and dancing.

Kringer places second in national musical theater competition

Fredonia sophomore Jeff Kringer, a Bachelor of Fine arts Musical Theatre major from Skaneateles, placed second in The National Society of Arts and Letters’ (NASL) Musical Theater competition held May 19 to 22 in Phoenix, Ariz. The placement earned Mr. Kringer a $7,000 cash prize.

Charles Castleman Quartet Program on campus

The Charles Castleman String Quartets program is being held on campus during the months of June and July. Thirty-six performers are participating, along with four piano interns. All master classes and recitals are in Rosch Recital Hall unless otherwise indicated. Admission for Student concerts is a recommended contribution of $5, with $15 for guest artist performances.

Fredonia student advances in national theater competition

A Fredonia sophomore has earned the right to compete for a $10,000 award from The National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL). Jeff Kringer, a Bachelor of Fine Arts Musical Theatre major from Skaneateles, will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., to take part in the NSAL national competition from May 19 to 22.
