New endowment created to promote diversity education

The Collingwood Distinguished Lecture for Diversity was recently established at Fredonia as part of the Fredonia College Foundation’s Nurturing Innovation Campaign. A $250,000 gift from an anonymous Fredonia graduate will provide annual support for an honorarium to bring a nationally recognized speaker of diversity to campus each year.

Today is the third #FREDlanthropy Day of Giving! Fredonians of all affiliations are encouraged that day to take to the Fredonia social media pages and share their FREDfavorites, learn about the impact of donations around campus, and most importantly, spread the culture of #FREDlanthropy by giving back through the Fredonia College Foundation.

Endowment to be created to support and preserve historical archive at Fredonia

A painting that had hung in Reed Library for over 30 years will help preserve an important literary archive. The painting by Niko Pirosmani, “Georgian Woman Wearing a Lechaki,” sold Tuesday at Sotheby’s in London for an estimated $2.3 million. The Fredonia College Foundation, which owned the painting, has established an endowment which will invest all net funds generated through this sale to support the prestigious Stefan Zweig collection, as well as Archives and Special Collections in Reed Library, for the benefit of scholars and students who have the remarkable opportunity to study the works of an important writer.

Sonnenfeld scholarships presented

The Marion Sonnenfeld Award Scholarship, which recognizes outstanding female students who exemplify leadership, hard work and a good sense of community, was recently presented to undergraduates by the Council for Women’s Concerns at its annual ceremony in the Williams Center Horizon Room.
