Four Fredonia Blue Devils have been chosen for SUNYAC weekly awards. Arron Carlson was named Male Diver of the Week, Sam Rokos (Delanson/Duanesburg) was named Female Swimmer of the Week, the Female Track Athlete of the Week is Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) and the lone newcomer to the awards list is Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), who was selected Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week.
Swimmers Sam Rokos (Delanson/Duanesburg), Lauren Goeing (Clarence/Clarence), and Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), and diver Rafael Santiago (Middletown/Middletown) finished their home careers in Fredonia's swimming and diving program on Saturday. In SUNYAC competition against Cortland, the men won by a score of 163-134, while the women fell 126-169.
Fredonia had several first-place finishers Saturday at the Brockport Mid-Season Classic men's and women's track and field meet. On the women's side, Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn.) set a Brockport Special Events & Recreation Center record in winning the 800 meters. Men's winners were Zakk Hess (Newark, N.Y.) in the mile (4:19.48), Kyle Collins (Suffern) in the 5,000 meters (14:58.29), and Rocky Caparro (Staten Island) in the triple jump (44' 0 1/2").
Four referee jerseys are still available for people wishing to pay homage to a cancer survivor or survivors at Pink The Rink 2016. Pre-sale tickets for the event are also available, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Dods Hall.
Fredonia's distance medley records in both genders were broken over the weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University. A new men's record was established Friday by the quartet of Bobby Cooper, Nick Watson, Collin Mulcahy and Kyle Collins. The women's record was broken Saturday by Hannah Kurbs, Brittany Feldman, Bonnie Binggeli and Laura Morrison.
Fredonia earned two important points in the SUNYAC men's hockey standings with a 3-2 home win Saturday over the Potsdam Bears. The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead on goals by Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.), Luke Rivera (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), and Hunter Long (Lebanon, Tenn.), then held on behind the goaltending of Eric Bogart (London, Ont.), to improve to 6-10-3 overall.
Two multi-athletes and five men in field events accounted for all of Fredonia's scoring Friday and Saturday during the Brockport Golden Eagles Multi and Invitational collegiate track and field meet.
Coming off her first cross country season in which she broke Fredonia's record in the 6,000-meter run, Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) has tacked her name next to the 1-mile run record as well. Running at the Highlander Invitational, Morrison toppled a record that had stood since 1990.
Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame) put his name in the record books of Fredonia's storied diving program on Saturday, breaking the school record in the 1-meter springboard (11-dive format) against Trinity University in Texas. Carlson's first-place score of 529.95 was better than Ryan Fuller's previous record of 528.90
