Celebrating Mendelssohn's 200th birthday

This Mendelssohn concert features solo piano and chamber music of Felix Mendelssohn, celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Performers include Dr. Jonathan Mann (SUNY Fredonia piano professor), Dr. Brendan Kinsella (Missouri Western University), Dr. Gregory Martin (Western Illinois University), Dr. Matthew Gianforte (Depauw University), and SUNY Fredonia piano students Mi Kyung Kim and John Kluge. In addition to works by Felix Mendelssohn, the program includes composers by Ignaz Moscheles, J.S. Bach and Robert Schumann.
This performance is part of the new Scholarship Series, created to raise awareness throughout our campus and greater community about the quality of events in the School of Music. Dr. Mann is Assistant Professor of Piano at SUNY Fredonia where he teaches applied piano and chamber music. Nominated for the 2008 Classical Fellowship Awards of the American Pianists Association, Dr. Mann enjoys a dynamic performing and teaching career that has taken him across the United States and Europe. Dr. Mann received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance under Dr. Karen Shaw from Indiana University, Bloomington, where he was associate instructor and faculty member of the Young Pianist's Program. He earned his Doctorate in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he served as teaching assistant to Professor James Tocco as well as a faculty member of the College-Conservatory's Preparatory Department. In 2010 he will record a solo disc of the music of Brazilian composer Radamés Ganttali for Centaur Records.
