Jake Brinkman, a theatre major and member of the SUNY Fredonia chapter of the United States Institute for Theatre Technologies (FUSITT), anounced that the campus chapter is vying for a video competition that could award the department of theatre and dance with a new lighting console. The winners will be announced mid-March, but the voting is going on now online.

The winner is selected according to the value of the production it submits, but 40 percent of the final score is weighted by the number of votes it receives online. Voting is accepted through March 23.

Fredonia students learned of the competition, put on by ETC, a company that provides lighting and control equipment for theatres. , and created and submitted a Fredonia video, entitled, "Stuff electricians say," and featuring the Fredonia lighting crew. "They are putting on a contest for schools to show them their "etc"--which stands for enthusiasm, talent, and creativity. Our group has done just that," Brinkman said.

ETC will announce the winner at the annual USITT conference held this year in Long Beach, CA, where representatives from the Fredonia chapter will be attending.

A sample of other colleges which have entered the competition include Nazareth College, Arizona State, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Minnesota. High schools are also eligible and are participating.

From the EOS website:

"Will your school win an ETC console? ETC will ultimately give away three demo-stock Eos®-line console prizes, one to each of the three best student-submitted videos. Your homemade videos will be judged for their 'ETC-ness' (enthusiasm, talent and creativity) and their use of ETC as a theme and motif. Each video must be under 5 minutes and appropriate in subject matter.

"The deadline for 'Show Us Your ETC' video-entry submission is Tuesday, February 21st, 2012, but voting will not close until Friday, March 23rd, 2012."
