Academic Advising and Course Registration
Each student at Fredonia is required to participate in Academic Advising before registering for courses each semester to stay on track. The Academic Advising Services team will support you through this process before your first semester by creating a preliminary course schedule for each new student and requiring you to complete the following three steps:
Completing the Course Scheduling Survey is critical in helping our Academic Advising team build your first semester schedule. We want to know everything: what type of college course work you have already completed, which classes you are most interested in taking, and special commitments you have, such as work or team practices that could affect your schedule.
Directions on how to complete this survey are emailed to an incoming student’s FREDmail account. You will also receive a FREDmail notification once your preliminary course schedule is ready to view.
Incoming students can find the online FREDReady Mini-Course using FREDLearn. Students can complete this mini-course at their own pace, but they must finish it in order to be eligible to participate in academic advising. The mini-course helps students learn how to:
- View their preliminary course schedule and transcript evaluation
- Use Degree Works to keep track of your degree progress
- Navigate the YourConnection portal to access important academic information or actions
Students will be automatically registered into the program and must use their eServices credentials to log into the FREDLearn system. An email will be sent when the mini-course is available to start.
Students will have an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor to finalize or make any necessary changes to their semester course schedule. Depending on whether you are starting with us in the fall or the spring will determine when your Academic Advising session will take place:
- Fall students meet with an Academic Advisor online one-on-one over the summer
- Once you finish the FREDReady Mini-Course, expect an email within 48 hours with a link and directions for setting up your one-on-one advising appointment.
- Spring students meet with an Academic Advisor during New Student Orientation just before classes begin
- An email with details about a student's advising session and other new student orientation information will be sent out in January.
