The Center for Sports Skills Measurement & Improvement (Center for Sports) CEO Kevin Morse and iKoss Consulting CEO Jennifer Koss will both participate in the 13th annual award ceremony which honors the best and brightest companies and individuals in the region’s technology community.
Admissions representatives from more than 90 colleges and universities will assemble at SUNY Fredonia for a regional college fair on Wednesday, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. The event is sponsored by the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling to benefit area high school students.
Dr. Mark White, chair of the Department of Political Science, Economics and Philosophy at CUNY Staten Island, will speak on Tuesday, April 9, as part of the Department of Business Administration’s 2012-13 Business Ethics Lecture Series.
SUNY Fredonia’s Hillel organization will celebrate Jewish History Month with opening ceremonies on Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m., in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center.
The SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator will host an “Open House” on Tuesday, April 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. All business, campus and community members are invited to attend this event, which is free and open to the public. The open house will feature current incubator tenants, employees and interns, including the chance to meet and interact with them personally. Tours of the building will be offered at 4:30 and 5:15 p.m., and Incubator Director Robert Fritzinger will give a brief presentation at 5:50 p.m. At least eight tenant companies are scheduled to participate.
The opening reception for “Seeds of Change,” a Buddhist exhibit that advocates education, personal empowerment and local initiatives to resolve global environmental problems, will be held on Sunday, April 7, at SUNY Fredonia’s Reed Library. The exhibit’s 16 colorful panels feature the works of environmental activists, such as Wangari Maathai, whose Green Belt Movement to reforest parts of Kenya evolved into a global initiative that has inspired hundreds of local women’s groups to plant over 20 million trees in deforested areas of the world.
Rockefeller Arts Center presents “Burma: Reflections on a Hidden Land.” This World Travel Series film will be screened on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. Filmmaker Sean Cassidy will personally present the work he created with Patricia Keith. In addition to highlighting the culture and the people of Burma (also known as Myanmar), the film also helps viewers better understand a sometimes troubling truth that reside beneath the surface of a tourist-ready veneer promoted by the country’s military regime.
Daniel A. Reed Library concluded the celebration of Jack London’s “Call of the Wild” by announcing the winners of the The Big Read “Come into the Wild” contest. Interested individuals were invited to submit an original, unpublished narrative or artwork from Jan. 7 to Feb. 13 in one of three categories.The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.
The Business Club of SUNY Fredonia will honor David and Polly Gambino, owners and operators of Thruway Super Service, as its “Business Person of theYear” at the organization’s annual awards dinner on Wednesday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The award, presented each spring for the last 35 years, is given to an individual or individuals in the local community who exhibit outstanding business leadership, public service, integrity and genuine concern for their employees.
