SUNY Fredonia’s Sustainability Committee will host a free environmental film festival from 3:00 to 8:30 p.m. today in Room 101 Jewett Hall. Designed to introduce audience members to a range of sustainability issues, the film festival will feature five award-winning environmental documentaries. Opening the series is A Sense of Wonder (2008), which pays tribute to pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson.

The International Education Center generated more than $2,500 for the Xylia Peterson Memorial Fund by creating the 3K "Slush Run" fun run held in early March. These proceeds will provide scholarship assistance to junior or senior level international students who need financial help.

Victory in a regional competition in Tarrytown, N.Y., earned SUNY Fredonia's SIFE team a trip to the national competition in Philadelphia this May. The regional competition included more than 40 teams, including such prestigious and sizable universities as Penn State, Syracuse and Princeton, as well as fellow Western New York institutions Canisius College and St. Bonaventure University.
Karen Russell, writer of the story collection, “St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves”, will read from her works on April 15 at 7 p.m. in 202 McEwen Hall. Her visit is sponsored by the Mary Louise White Visiting Writers Series in the English Department. After the event, she will take questions and then sign her book.
