The individual in history is celebrated in competition

Celebrating “The Individual in History,” students from Chautauqua County schools recently had the chance to present performances, exhibits, and documentaries on individuals who made history. The regional competition was hosted by SUNY Fredonia as part of a statewide contest which will send winning students to a national competition.

S.A. president voted top-ranked attorney at Mock Trial

Nicholas Dhimitri was voted the top-ranked attorney by the presiding judges at the Third Annual Finger Lakes Regional American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) tournament, held at the Syracuse University School of Law last month. The Fredonia Student Association president garnered a perfect score and was ranked as the number-one student among more than 80 students.

Buffalo Philharmonic in concert Friday, saxophone concerto performed with Wildy Zumwalt

SUNY Fredonia saxophone professor Wildy Zumwalt will be featured during an April 3 performance with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of BPO resident conductor Robert Franz, in King Concert Hall. The program includes Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 6, Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture, and Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concerto for Saxophone, in which Zumwalt will be featured.

"Slush Rush" raises over $2k for international scholarships

The SUNY Fredonia International Education Center hosted its inaugural 3K fun run yesterday on the Fredonia campus. $2,248 was raised from registration, donations, and raffle ticket sales that went to the Xylia Peterson ’85 Memorial Fund. The proceeds provide scholarship assistance to junior or senior level international students who need financial assistance to complete his/her degree. Dubbed the “Slush Rush” because of the likelihood of the melting late winter snow, the “slush” was lacking due to the bitter 21 degree weather. However, the cold did not stop the 140 community members, faculty, staff, and students from participating in the polar bear run.

Women's History Month features many guest speakers

The Women's Studies Student Research Conference will take place with dinner and presentations in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center on Wednesday, March 25, from 5 to 7 p.m.. The keynote speaker will be University of Pittsburgh Professor Amanda Godley, whose talk is entitled, "Gender Equity in Higher Education." No registration is needed.
