Alumnus Knappenberger wins Grammy's first-ever Music Educator Award

Kent Knappenberger, ’87, a 25-year veteran music teacher at Westfield Academy and Central School, made history today by being named the recipient of the first annual Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. One of 10 finalists and the only one from New York State, he was one of more than 30,000 music educators from all 50 states nominated for the award.

New Golden Key members inducted, alumna Georgie Fu gave keynote

A recognition ceremony for more than 115 new members of the SUNY Fredonia chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society was held Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Georgie Fu, a 2012 summa cum laude graduate, SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence recipient and a former Golden Key chapter president, gave the keynote address.

Alumna Sherry Cleary to discuss practices for early childhood care and education

Sherry Cleary, executive director of the New York City Professional Development Institute and a SUNY Fredonia alumna, will visit in November to discuss the importance of high quality early childhood care and education. The first session will be on Friday, Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. in Williams Center Room S204DE on campus. The session will be followed by an opportunity to visit all seven Universal Pre-K classrooms at Wheelock School, Fredonia Elementary School’s Early Learning Center. The second session will be on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. at Wheelock School.

Campus to host Veterans Remembrance Ceremony Friday

Campus and community citizens will gather in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room at the sixth annual Veterans Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8, at 3:30 p.m. “SUNY Fredonia truly holds a special regard for all veterans past and present,” said Provost Terry Brown, who will lead the ceremony which honors veterans, active duty military members and those that preceded them. Three students will receive scholarships at the event: Daniel Rowe, Brittany Toapha, and Erin Dorozynski.

Graduate School Fair and workshops to be offered by Career Development Office

The SUNY Fredonia Career Development Office will be hosting its annual Graduate School Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The event is a part of a two-day series of Graduate School events and workshops for students. More than 50 graduate programs have registered to participate in the fair representing a variety of industries and disciplines.

Alumni to receive Outstanding Achievement Award at Homecoming

Two SUNY Fredonia alumni will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award during Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12. Dr. Constance (Wheat) Batty and Edward "Ted" DeDee will receive their awards, the highest honor given by the Fredonia Alumni Association, at a luncheon in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center at 11:30 a.m.

Geosciences alumni, faculty to mark department's 50th anniversary

Alumni from all across the country who studied one of the Geosciences at SUNY Fredonia will return to campus during Homecoming weekend, Oct. 11 to 13, to celebrate that department’s 50th anniversary. Reminiscing with former classmates and professors, enjoying a buffet dinner, meeting current students and perhaps embarking on a field trip to an area of prime geological interest in Chautauqua County are on the agenda.
