Over 300 SUNY Fredonia students are expected to participate in the annual Fall Sweep on Nov. 4, a leaf raking event created to strengthen the bonds between students and the residents of the village of Fredonia.
Diving among sharks off the Caribbean coral reef -- at feeding time, no less -- could easily be someone’s worst nightmare. But it’s the ideal day job for Molly McKinney, a Television/Digital Film Production major at SUNY Fredonia.

That’s the feeling SUNY Fredonia student Anne Marie Miller, the 2007 recipient of the Lundquist International Fellowship, brought back with her to campus this fall.
The Musical Journeys Program of the Fredonia School of Music will kick off its second season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children. Selected student ensembles from the Fredonia School of Music will perform four, half-hour Children’s Concerts on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. beginning on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 heads the program for the Saturday, Oct. 20, concert of the SUNY Fredonia College Symphony at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
The Ethos New Music Society of SUNY Fredonia will present "Hearing Voices" on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m., in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. The concert of art songs begins the group’s 30th season of active support of new music in Western New York and will feature student singers and pianists premiering compositions by student composers. Works by Ryan Brewer of Dansville, Scott Byrne of Northport, Sara Culhane and Joel Hunt of Rochester, Scott Farkas of Stony Point, Alex Northrup of Webster, Seth Rush of Commack, and Chris Sobolewski of Marcellus, will be featured. The concert is free and the public is invited to attend.
The red carpet -- lined with tours, delicious food and live performances -- will be rolled out during Family Weekend, Sept. 28 to 30, when SUNY Fredonia welcomes parents and family members of its more than 5,000 students to campus. “Family Weekend is a tradition at SUNY Fredonia, and a great time to re-connect students with their loved ones after the busy first month of the semester. There are activities for people of all ages, and we encourage families to visit on this special weekend.” Registration will be held Friday, 3 to 7 p.m., at the Williams Center. Festivities begin with a buffet with hot hors d’oeuvres and other light fare at the Williams Center, 5 to 7 p.m.
A program to showcase the strength and breadth of the offerings of the State University of New York, “Operation Inform,” will be hosted Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Williams Center at SUNY Fredonia. Attending will be over 100 school guidance counselors from 49 schools within a 100 mile radius of the university. Director of Admissions Christopher Dearth noted, “It is an absolute pleasure to host these high school professionals for SUNY Operation Inform. Not only are we highlighting the value and importance of a SUNY education, we are also showcasing Fredonia.”
The sixth annual Jurgen P. Banse-Fay Memorial Production Management Intern award at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center was presented recently to Jeff Mace, a B.F.A. Theatrical Technical Production major at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
The 18th Annual Early Childhood Conference will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., at McEwen Hall. The annual event is held to offer professional development opportunities to members of the Chautauqua County early childhood community, including teacher education students.
