Professor Markus Vink will present the paper “Towards a Dutch Indian Ocean Slave Trade Database (IOSTD): Pitfalls and Potentialities” at the Indian Ocean and Maritime Asia Slave Trade Database Workshop at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

23rd Heinz Awards honor Dr. Sherri Mason

The Heinz Family Foundation named Dr. Sherri Mason as the recipient of the prestigious 23rd Heinz Award in the Public Policy category. She is recognized for her groundbreaking research identifying the presence of microbeads and microfibers in fresh water, and for raising awareness of the potential impact of microplastics and associated contaminants on the food chain and human health, resulting in state, federal and international policy change.

Plastics research pioneer Mason to deliver Kasling lecture

What spurred the journey taken by Dr. Sherri (Sam) Mason, a Chemistry professor at Fredonia who has emerged as a pioneer research scientist through her groundbreaking work on plastics pollution, will be shared in “Transformations: A Scientific Journey,” in the Robert M. Kasling Memorial Lecture she will present on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Rosch Recital Hall.
