An ambitious goal of 5,000 individual letters prepared by students that solicit donations from family members and friends to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital has been set for SUNY Fredonia’s fall “Up ‘Til Dawn” event to be held Saturday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Dods Hall Gym.
This year the team is once again selling the authentic, game-worn jerseys in advance of the event for $250, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Once donors have made their contribution, they are entitled to have the last name of a loved one printed on the back of the jersey, which will be worn by SUNY Fredonia players during the game.
Due to unexpected circumstances, Professor Mark H. Gelber will not be able to deliver the first Biannual Stefan Zweig Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Japanese Garden section of Reed Library. The lecture is postponed until next semester.
The candidates include Mike Baker, a junior political science major, for president, and his vice presidential running mate, Kelly Tichacek, a senior legal studies and political science major; and Nicole Matteson, a junior political science major, for president, and her vice presidential running mate, Richard Rodgers, a junior history major.
On Friday, Nov. 12, the SUNY Fredonia women’s sorority, Sigma Kappa, will host the second annual Tuggin’ for Tots event on the field behind Nixon Hall at 5:30 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Jamestown Toys for Tots organization. Tuggin’ for Tots will consist of a tug-of-war competition between two groups of five, split into men’s and women’s teams.
Donors can drop off non-perishable breakfast food items in Reed Library boxes on Wednesday and Thursday (Nov. 3 and 4) this week, and at the Williams Center G138, all day (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) on Friday, Nov. 5.
Examining the impact and life of Margaret Fuller, the Daniel A. Reed Library in collaboration with Dr. Emily VanDette’s English Senior Seminar students will be holding a discussion series and a Traveling Exhibit entitled, “Why Margaret Fuller Matters.”
On Nov. 2 the Student Association executive branch will hold a debate between the president and vice president nominees in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room at 6 p.m. Join in the debate as executive president and vice president nominees go head-to-head over issues concerning the Student Association. The debate will position presidential candidate Mike Baker, a junior political science major, together with his vice presidential running mate Kelly Tichacek, a senior legal studies and political science major, against presidential candidate and junior political science major Nicole Matteson, and junior history major Richard Rodgers, her vice presidential running mate.
This day-long event before Thanksgiving break encourages pre-modern literature, drama, and music lovers to sign-up for a ten minute spot to read, recite, or perform a selection from their favorite pre-modern work. Interested in pre-modern era, but aren’t much of a reader yourself? Come be a part of the audience.
