Orchesis Dance Company was founded in 1967 by Carol Prevet. 46 years later, Orchesis is still going strong, full of students that all share a passion for dance.
Dr. James Ivey of the Department of Theatre and Dance announced that the final day of the One-Act Play Festival one-act at SUNY Fredonia is tonight (Monday, Dec. 16) at 6 p.m.; rescheduled from Friday.
The Kaleidoscope Family Series presents “The Christmas That Almost Wasn’t," a production by Child’s Play Touring Theatre of Chicago that offers a peek at the hustle and bustle and near disasters of the Christmas season faced by Santa and his helpers.
The DFT Communications Pops Series at Rockefeller Arts Center presents “The Hit Men: ’Tis the Seasons” on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
The Hillman Opera will present two performances of Gioachino Rossini’s famous work “La Cenerentola” (Cinderella) in November at SUNY Fredonia. It will be a staged concert version of the classic opera, sung in the original Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. Performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 in King Concert Hall.
Orchesis Dance Company proudly presents, “Orchesis Unplugged,” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080. The annual show will feature many talented SUNY Fredonia dancers and choreographers performing various genres of dance including modern, jazz, and tap.
Russell Partrick, who continues to serve as manager of the band says, “The members are excited about returning to campus after at least 23 years.”
Sandoval brings his legendary talent to the SUNY Fredonia School of Music for three days of activities. The main event is Monday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
Virtuoso oboist/celtic violinist Colin Maier will give a free guest artist recital Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. His recital will include standard repertoire for the oboe along with celtic music played on violin, sometimes with a theatrical twist. Mr. Maier will be joined in this concert with School of Music pianist I-Fei Chen, oboe faculty Dr. Sarah Hamilton and Mark DuBois, and students Alec Dube, Ian Liedke and Emma Garcia. SUNY Fredonia will host BombaYo! for three lectures/workshops to celebrate the Afro Puerto Rican tradition of Bomba. The Latinos Unidos and Orchesis event will include a variety of Latin music for an interactive celebration. The first lecture/workshop is Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Rosch Recital Hall; the next on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room; and the third on Friday, Oct.11 in Mason Hall Room 1080. Each starts at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
