The Rocky Mountains are the backbone of North America and a trip through this region is the focus of the travel/adventure film “The Great Rocky Mountain RV Adventure, Part 2," to be presented on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall as the second event in the 2015-16 World Travel Series.
The Musical Journeys Program will continue its 10th season of free concerts with special guest musician John Hausmann playing the sitar on Saturday Nov. 7 at the Darwin R. Barker Library in Fredonia. There will be two performances, at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., each lasting half an hour.
The Fredonia College Symphony, conducted by Dr. David Rudge and his apprentice, Hayden Denesha, celebrates Halloween with a “terrifying” music event in King Concert Hall on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m.
The Hillman Opera will present an English translation of Franz Lehár’s classic work “The Merry Widow” from Nov. 13 to 15. As is the Hillman Opera tradition, a large number of students will participate on stage, off stage, behind the stage and in the pit. Approximately 125 students will intersect with faculty in bringing this stunning production to life.
Fredonia’s School of Music Wind Ensemble and Saxophone Ensemble have been selected to perform at the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) annual winter conference. The concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8:15 p.m. in the Lilac Ballroom of the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
Sculpture installations, illustrations and paintings created by five graduating seniors of the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will be on display in an exhibition opening Dec. 4 in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery.The exhibition, titled “A Work in Progress,” opens with a reception on Friday, Dec. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 23, Jason Dilworth, recipient of the 2014-2015 Marion International Fellowship for the Visual and Performing Arts and assistant professor of Visual Arts and New Media, will be presenting stories from his experience traveling across the North American interior.
More than 100 different students have landed roles in the five Department of Theatre and Dance productions planned during the 2015-16 season at Fredonia. Casting for the department’s Walter Gloor Mainstage Series wrapped up on Aug. 29. According to Tom Loughlin, chairman of Fredonia’s Department of Theatre and Dance, 102 different students have been cast across the five shows.
Diverse works by 13 faculty members in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will be on display in a new exhibition at the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. The Visual Arts and New Media Faculty Showcase opens Friday, Oct. 23 and runs through Friday, Nov. 20.
The start of a new school year is an eventful time for any college student, but Fredonia's Nia Drummond has an exceptionally packed calendar. In addition to settling in and starting classes, Ms. Drummond, a senior Vocal Performance major, will perform in three major events, taking her from Fredonia to New York City to Cleveland and back.
