The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present its Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at King Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend the free concert.
The Meta Trio will perform works by Johann Joachim Quantz, Jean-Baptiste Singelée, Johannes Brahms and Astor Piazzolla in a concert on Monday, April 10, 8 p.m., at Diers Recital Hall. The group includes pianist James Welch of the School of Music; solo saxophonist Jacob Swanson, who teaches instrumental music in the Gowanda Central School District; and soprano saxophonist Michael Hernandez, of San Jose State University.
The Department of Visual Arts and New Media at the State University of New York at Fredonia will celebrate the accomplishments of graduating art majors with two April exhibition openings in the Cathy and Jess Marion Art Gallery.
The Commencement Eve Pops tradition continues at Rockefeller Arts Center – and this year’s edition is truly something to get jazzed up about. “Commencement Eve Pops with New York Voices” will be presented on Friday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. In addition to the GRAMMY Award-winning New York Voices, the concert features talented student ensembles – The Fredonia Voices and The Fredonia Jazz Ensemble.
Buffalo artist Anthony Leone will be featured at the Fredonia Technology Incubator to showcase his creative paintings and works on paper. The exhibition will be held at the FTI Art Gallery Feb. 6 through March 10. The gallery is free and open to the public, and hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception with the artist is slated for Friday, Feb. 24.
“Moods, Moons and Masterpieces: A Portrait of An Artist,” a short documentary of Fredonia artist Tom Annear by Roslin Smith, will be presented at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on Thursday, March 30, at 7.30 p.m., prior to the feature film “The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism.”
Ethos New Music Society will bring the Chicago-based Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble to campus for a two-day residency that includes a concert on Monday, March 27, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall and a lecture on Sunday, March 26, at 7 p.m.
The creativity of Fredonia students will be on display in an exhibition opening March 3 in the Cathy and Jessie Marion Art Gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center. The “Fredonia Showcase” will feature artwork by 69 students. The exhibition opens on Friday, March 3 with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The reception will feature a large-scale, two-sided projection by sophomore Justin Gennaro.
Fredonia Constellation Concerts: Aligning Fredonia’s Brightest Stars, a new performance initiative to be offered by the School of Music to prospective students and their families, will debut on Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. A broad range of faculty and student performers will be featured in the series that continues on Feb. 3, 17 and 24 – each one coinciding with the night before an audition day of the season.
Elizabeth Widzinski and James Welch, with fellow School of Music faculty, will present different flavors of operatic repertoire on Monday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
