Vink to present paper in the Netherlands
Professor Markus Vink will present the paper “Towards a Dutch Indian Ocean Slave Trade Database (IOSTD): Pitfalls and Potentialities” at the Indian Ocean and Maritime Asia Slave Trade Database Workshop at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Vink’s published article to be translated for Chinese academic press
The article “Indian Ocean Studies and the ‘New Thalassology,'" written by History professor Markus Vink and published in the March 2007 issue of the Journal of Global History, has been selected for a forthcoming edited volume of English essays that will be translated for Chinese scholars.

Fabian signs book contract with Cambridge University Press
Dr. Steven Fabian of the Department of History recently signed a book contract with Cambridge University Press, the oldest printing and publishing house in the world and the oldest university press. His manuscript, “Making Identity on the Swahili Coast: Urban Life, Community, and Belonging in Bagamoyo,” will be the inaugural volume of a new series called “African Identities: Past and Present.”
Kinkela co-editor of history journal issue
David Kinkela, chair and associate professor in the Department of History, co-edited the latest issue of Radical History Review, a top history journal devoted to issues of gender, race, sexuality, imperialism and class that stretches the boundaries of historical analysis to explore Western and non-Western histories.
