The Fredonia women's volleyball team finished its season with a 22-10 mark and fell one match short of the SUNYAC title and an NCAA berth. Following the season, three seniors -- Courtney Poirier, Hallie Christopher, and Kristen Stanek -- were named to the All-SUNYAC team, along with junior Kailey Falk. Poirier was also named the league's Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Geoff Braun was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year.
Alyson Baumann (North Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) was a triple winner for the Fredonia women's swimming and diving team on Saturday. The squad competed in a tri-meet at the University of Rochester. Alfred University was the third team.
Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) connected for his second goal of the game with 6:33 left in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Fredonia men's hockey team its first win of the season over previously undefeated Geneseo.
The Fredonia women's volleyball team fell to Brockport in three sets on Saturday in the SUNYAC Finals (25-16, 26-24, 25-16). Emma Falk (York, N.Y.) and Kristen Stanek (Hamburg) led the offense with nine kills apiece. Kailey Falk (York, N.Y.) added six.
Fredonia sophomore Christian Krasnek (Springville) is SUNYAC Men's Diver of the Week for the second straight reporting period. Krasnek, also the conference weekly award recipient last week, swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events Saturday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
One Fredonia runner attained his place in the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Hall of Fame. Another came up just short. The newest Fredonia recipient -- and the 32rd in program history -- is junior Ethan Francis (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), who finished seventh at the 2017 SUNYAC Men's Cross Country championship race.
The Fredonia women's volleyball team finished its weekend 3-0 and taking down Montclair State (N.J.) and Nazareth on Saturday. The Devils improved to 21-9 and travel to Brockport next weekend for the SUNYAC Tournament. The ride a seven-match win streak into next weekend.
Christian Krasnek (Springville/Springville) won both the 3m and 1m board with NCAA Regional qualifying scores when the Fredonia swimming and diving team traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 28. Bill Bradley (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was a triple winner for the Blue Devils.
The official dedication of the Greg & Linda (Ferry) Prechtl Office Suite took place Saturday during Homecoming 2017 festivities. Located in Dods Hall, the Prechtl Suite contains the Department of Athletics and Recreation, including Mr. Prechtl's former office where he served as Director of Athletics since 1997.
The Fredonia women's volleyball team completed its conference schedule by sweeping Plattsburgh and New Paltz on the final day of Pool Play on Saturday. The Devils finished in second place in the SUNYAC at 8-1, one game behind Brockport. The team will head into the SUNYAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed in a six-team field in two weeks.
