Bartlett, Carlson repeat as Student-Athletes of Year

All-America divers Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y.) and Arron Carlson (LeRoy) are repeat Fredonia Student-Athlete of the Year winners. Each won the awards in 2016 and again this year when season-ending awards were announced Sunday afternoon at the 2017 Awards Gala inside Rosch Recital Hall.

Campus exceeds goal for SUNYAC 10 Million Yards for Yeardley

The total count was 1,451,363.4 yards walked by students, faculty, staff and community members during Fredonia's SUNYAC Yards for Yeardley's event. There were 276 walkers...and two dogs. The majority of the walkers were student-athletes, joined by faculty, staff and athletic boosters.

Capestrani sets new school record

A new Fredonia women's outdoor pole vault record was set Saturday at the Cortland Classic Invitational. Mikayla Capestrani, a junior, cleared 3.47 meters -- 11 feet, 4 1/2 inches -- to finish second in the event. It was 2 1/4 inches higher than the previous record.

Backed by HRs, Shellenberger blanks Geneseo

Fredonia used the long ball and shutout pitching Sunday to earn a SUNYAC softball split with Geneseo at Blue Devil Field. Sophomore right-hander Emily Shellenberger (Philadelphia, Pa.) pitched a five-hitter, inducing 16 ground ball outs, in a 5-0 Game 2 win.

Yokopovich receives weekly honors

Fredonia junior midfielder Audrey Yokopovich (Webster) has been named SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week. She scored five goals last week and had at least one point in 14 of 15 games standing second on the team with 32 goals this season and third with 35 points.

Collins sets new school 5K record

Fredonia fifth-year senior Kyle Collins (Suffern) broke a 34-year-old school record Friday in the 5,000 meters while competing in the Bucknell Outdoor Track & Field Classic. Previously No. 2 on Fredonia's Top 10 list, Collins ran 14:25.03 on Friday to eclipse Bernie Prabucki's 14:31.10 from April 1983.

Devils, Bengals 'Strike Out Cancer'

Friday's home softball doubleheader was designated "Strike Out Cancer Day" by the Fredonia Blue Devil softball team. The Blue Devils wore pink jerseys and socks to signify their support in the fight against breast cancer. In addition, they dedicated the day to former SUNY Buffalo State head coach, the late Sandra Hollander.

Feldman 4th in 400 at Bucknell

Brittany Feldman (Jamestown) finished fourth in the women's 400 meters in 56.85 seconds at Bucknell University. Feldman was entered in the 10th and final heat, a presumptive final which also included the top three finishers and five of the top eight. Feldman was the top NCAA D-3 finisher.

Bartlett named top scholar-athlete in her sport

Senior Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y.) has been named the top student in her sport by the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Bartlett, a six-time NCAA Division III All-American in springboard diving, was named as SUNYAC Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote by the conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs). Earlier this year, she was named SUNYAC Women's Diver of the Year as well as SUNYAC Diver of the Meet following the four-day conference championship meet in Buffalo.

Williams has two PRs, Feldman makes 800 list

In her first-ever outdoor 800-meter run, Fredonia junior Brittany Feldman (Jamestown) put her name on the Blue Devils' all-time Top 10 list. Feldman finished in 2:20.08, good for the No. 6 spot on the list, during Sunday's Nazareth Roc City Classic. In throwing events, Rachel Williams had personal-bests in the hammer throw (41.37 meters) and the discus (33.85 meters).
