Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame) won the 1-meter board over last year's national champion, Sam Randall, of Geneseo. Carlson's score of 335.25 again provisionally qualified for the NCAA Zone meet. He also took the 3-meter board with a score of 340.95. Carlson has won all eight events he has competed in this year.
Senior diver Meghan Bartlett beat the reigning SUNYAC Diver of the Week off both boards vs. Geneseo on Saturday. Bartlett topped the Knight's Claudia Kolakowski 278.65 to 256.70 off the 1-meter board, and 294.10 to 231.40 off the 3-meter board to win both events.
Fredonia and Buffalo State skated to a 1-1 SUNYAC men's hockey tie in overtime Saturday at Steele Hall. Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) scored for the Blue Devils, who defeated the Bengals 4-2 on Friday at Buffalo. Jake Rosen countered for the Bengals.
The women’s basketball team at Fredonia will conduct two basketball clinics in January, open to girls in fourth to twelfth grade from Cattaraugus County, to commemorate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, on Jan. 3 and 15. There is no admission fee for either session but registration is required.
Sam Greco (Lockport/Lockport) scored the decisive goal in the sixth shootout round to send Fredonia past Plattsburgh and into the semifinals of the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Tournament. It was the first SUNYAC men's tournament game at University Stadium and the Blue Devils first playoff game since a 1-0 loss to Brockport in 2010. Fredonia moves on to meet Oneonta at 1 p.m. Wednesday in one of two SUNYAC semifinals.
The Fredonia women's volleyball team fell to St. John Fisher, 3-2, in the morning before bouncing back with a convincing 3-0 win over St. Lawrence in the final match of the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational on Friday. On Tuesday, the Devils will play host to Geneseo in the first round of the SUNYAC post-season.
The Fredonia women's cross country team placed fourth of 10 teams in the SUNYAC Championship meet held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. Sophomore Brenna Donovan (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) was the top Blue Devil runner placing 18th in a time of 22:48.9 on the 6K course.
The Fredonia men's cross country team placed third of 10 teams in the SUNYAC Championship Meet held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. Sophomore Ethan Francis (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was the top Blue Devil runner placing seventh in a time of 25:40.4 in the 8k race. Isaac Garcia-Cassani of Geneseo took first place in 24:54.1.
Senior tennis player Chloe Cohen (West Hempstead/West Hempstead) was named All-Conference by the State University of New York Athletic Conference. A Second Team Singles honoree, she finished the season 7-4, playing 10 matches at second singles, and one match at first singles.
Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame) broke a pool record and Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y./York) was a triple winner Saturday at the tri-meet in Steele Hall. Lubanski won the 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke and was on the winning 200-yard medley relay.
