The Archer and Mabel Fox Scholarship

Archer and Mabel Fox raised their family of nine children in rural southern New Hampshire. Archer worked long hours managing a dairy farm, and, when not attending to the children, Mabel worked in a textile mill. Eight of the nine children survived to attend college, most graduating from the University of New Hampshire. Archer and Mabel Fox instilled in their children a strong work ethic, a profound social conscience, and an especially deep appreciation of the opportunities afforded by public higher education. This scholarship honors the sacrifices they made to insure educational opportunity for their children. The endowment was established by Dr. Kevin A. Fox. He is the ninth child of Archer and Mabel Fox, and served as a member of the Fredonia Biology Department faculty for more than 30 years.

The Archer and Mabel Fox Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have graduated from public high schools in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, or incoming transfer students from community colleges. The recipients must also be planning careers in an area of the biological sciences other than medical.
