Smart City and IoT Research Group
The Smart City and IoT (Internet of Things) Research Group focuses on advancing technologies that enhance urban living through intelligent, connected systems. Our research explores the integration of IoT devices, data analytics, and smart infrastructure to create sustainable, efficient, and responsive cities. By developing innovative solutions in areas such as smart transportation, energy management, environmental monitoring, and public safety, our group aims to transform urban environments into more livable and resilient spaces for communities.
SCRES (Smart City Research Seminar)
The successful Kraus/Fredonia Conversation in Disciplines proposal was jointly submitted by Junaid Zubairi (Computer Science), Megan Johnson (Mathematical Sciences), and Syed Haider (Computer Science). Their proposal revolves around the concept of Smart Cities. A Smart City is an urban area that utilizes information and communication technologies (ICT) to enhance the quality and performance of urban services, reduce resource consumption, and improve its citizens' overall quality of life. Services deployed in a smart city include traffic management through optimized traffic signal control, automatic detection and resolution of emergencies, hospital capacity management, parking administration, and solid waste management. Research in these areas is gaining momentum following the deployment of 5G cellular networks and innovations in AI, robotics, cloud computing, and automation. As a result, the proposed seminar's topic is timely and highly relevant. This event is expected to generate significant interest on campus and may act as a step toward planning a future international conference on smart cities at SUNY Fredonia.
