Professor showcasing research project
Junaid Ahmed Zubairi, Ph.D., Chair

I welcome you to the computer and information sciences department at Fredonia and thank you for your interest. Today is a great time to study computing sciences. Our undergraduate degrees in Computer Science (CS) and Computer Information Systems (CIS) prepare you for various jobs in the IT industry, including IT management, software development and software engineering. We take pride in the modern state of the art labs, smaller class sizes, direct interaction with professors and a strong link with the industry. We recently moved to the newly renovated Houghton Hall with a conducive learning environment. The new location has multimedia, virtual reality, operating systems, security, networking, robotics and hardware labs. The labs are located across the faculty offices in close proximity to the Bradley Collaboratory where students like you can work together on projects with shared monitors.

The faculty in the department are well grounded in modern tools and systems. They introduce these tools and systems to the students early on, preparing them for the new challenges. We encourage the students to explore networking and security certifications in addition to completing the degree coursework. Students get an opportunity to work on industry sponsored projects. There are also opportunities to take part in coding competitions as part of the CS club and programming teams.

Our alumni are employed at well-known companies like Google, IBM, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Microsoft, and Paychex. Students have also successfully continued their graduate education at schools like CalTech, the University at Buffalo, Rice University, Georgia Tech, and Rochester Institute of Technology. We look forward to your successful academic career at Fredonia. Please run this short presentation to get introduced to the department.

Located near Buffalo, New York and the wonderful Niagara Falls, Fredonia offers many activities to students that will keep you engaged in and out of the classroom. Buffalo is a large city nearby, which consists of many places for shopping, food and entertainment. It can be reached in one hour bus ride from the campus. Fredonia's campus looks like a beautiful park, which has all the services and facilities that are found in a large university in the United States. A good library, a number of computer labs and academic assistance staff will help ensure your academic success.

If you are looking for safe, diverse and comfortable campus, then Fredonia is a good and suitable place for you. If you want to be a leader in the classroom and campus, you can do it right here. Keep in mind that your Fredonia experience will be so good that you will remember it for life. We wish you all the best and would like to welcome you if you choose Fredonia for your education. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

With best wishes,
