Fredonia's jazz ensembles are among the most active and accomplished performing groups at the university, with a long tradition of excellence recognized nationally and internationally through DownBeat Magazine's Student Music Awards. The Jazz Orchestra, New Jazz Ensemble, and Flextet provide large-ensemble experiences spanning the breadth of the jazz tradition, while multiple instrumental and vocal jazz combos give students opportunities to explore a wide range of styles, genres, and performance configurations.Our ensembles are deeply engaged both on campus and throughout the surrounding community, performing regularly at concerts, festivals, special events, and other venues. From traditional jazz and swing to contemporary, Latin, fusion, funk, and other styles, Fredonia's jazz ensembles offer students an unusually broad range of opportunities to perform, collaborate, and develop as musicians while contributing to the vibrant musical life of the university and region.
