One in every three people will be diagnosed with cancer some time in their life. SUNY Fredonia students will go the distance to “Finish the Fight” against cancer with the annual Relay for Life hosted by Colleges Against Cancer on April 12 from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. April 13 in Steele Hall field house. Registration is $20.
Mary Cappotelli of LeRoy, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for February by Residence Life. Joseph McFall, assistant professor of the Department of Psychology, nominated Mary because “she is a truly exceptional student.”
The SUNY Fredonia Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a panel designed to explore and discuss the issues of non-apparent disabilities in higher education on Thursday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204. How the disabilities impact students, as well as the resources available at SUNY Fredonia, will be the focus of the discussion.
The Korean International Student Society (KISS) will host its annual Korean Banquet on Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. There will be a variety of Korean food favorites and several musical performances.
TICKETS FOR THIS PERFORMANCE ARE CURRENTLY SOLD OUT. The ticket office staff will start a waiting list beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the venue door (must be present to join list). The School of Music will present the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) tonight at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Their appearance at Fredonia will include a special joint performance with the Fredonia Guitar Ensemble, a student ensemble led by Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski.
The University Police Department at SUNY Fredonia has earned the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (LEAP) designation – the gold standard in law enforcement – from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Buffalo News Editor Mike Connelly will deliver the keynote address as the SUNY Fredonia student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists presents its annual conference on Saturday, April 5. The conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Connelly delivering his address at 1:30 p.m.
Students seeking a venue to sharpen their oratorical skills or those who simply enjoy being captivated by talented speakers are invited to the annual Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at McEwen Hall Room 202. The Black Student Union (BSU) will be hosting “Culture Fest” on Saturday, April 5 at noon in Steele Hall fieldhouse. BSU will also be hosting a fashion show on the same day in the same location at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for both events at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center for $5, and will also be available at the door. All are welcome to attend.
Volunteers from the SUNY Fredonia Health Professions Club will serve as sighted guides for the upcoming “Dining in the Dark” fundraiser. The dinner will be on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m., at the Chautauqua Suites in Mayville. Guests of “Dining in the Dark” will be immersed in a unique dining experience by eating dinner blindfolded.
