Naturalization Information Session offered Wednesday
SUNY Fredonia's Human Resources office is collaborating with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to offer a free Naturalization Information Session for all those interested on Wednesday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m. in Williams Center Room S104.
Literature of Exile explored in final Brown Bag May 4
On Wed., May 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in room S-104 of the Williams Center, the final Arts & Humanities Brown Bag Lecture of the semester will explore the literature of exile in a panel discussion titled, “Imaginary Countries: Writers Re-imagining their Nations from Exile.” It will feature three Fredonia professors who have researched writers from three very different countries and explored how their experiences in exile has affected their writing.
Rivera honored with SUNY Chancellor's Award for Internationalization
Dr. Carmen Rivera, chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, recently received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Internationalization, for developing “Thematic International Education Seminars, T.I.E.S,” a new educational exchange program with Puebla, Mexico. For SUNY Fredonia— one of only five campuses throughout SUNY so honored — the award provides $4,000 to support the new summer-seminar program and make it more affordable to students in the 2011-12 academic year.
Student teaching program in Australia offered in January
SUNY Fredonia presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students in the Department of Education who would like an international student teaching program in Australia. The program will be offered in January of 2012. Applications are available in the International Education Center for all education students and are due by May 1 at noon
"Flight of Hope" raises more than $3,300 to aid Japan
The Flight of Hope Committee is pleased to announce a successful conclusion to the effort to fold 3,000 cranes for our sister institutions in Japan, each one reflecting an individual donation to Japan's relief fund. Cranes were sent to SUNY Fredonia's three sister institutions in Japan on Friday, April 1.

Spend a day away from the hustle and bustle and unwind…it’s Meditation Day in Fredonia! The International Education Center, together with the Center for Multicultural Affairs, educates and creates understanding across world cultures and traditions by presenting meditation sessions on April 16, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Newman Center on Temple Street.
Nefin Dinc will screen award-winning film on bitter Greece-Turkey relations April 13
Nefin Dinc's documentary, “The Other Town,” won the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival. She will be screening the film on campus April 13 at 7:30 p.m, in McEwen Hall Room 202. The film explores the bitter relationship between Turkey and Greece, and reveals contemporary, nationalistic mentalities and education.
Migrant community photo exhibit opens March 4 with guest authors
Reed Library will host a photographic exhibit from March 4 to 28 titled, “Growing Season: The Life of a Migrant Community.” The images and stories detail the lives of roughly 160 Mexican and Mexican-American workers on a farm in Hartville, Ohio, and their families, in a community of roughly 300 that is established on the perimeter of the farm fields.
Expanded to 5K, "Slush Rush" helps international scholarships
Organizers have expanded the annual "Slush Rush" race to a full 5K (3.1 mile) distance on a closed course, up from the shorter 3K “Fun Run” that was used in the first two years. Dubbed the Slush Rush because of the likelihood of snow, the race is held in remembrance of Xylia Peterson, ’85, to benefit student travel internationally.
