Learning partnership with China announced

Acceptance into the International Academic Partnerships Program, an initiative of the Institute of International Education’s Center for International Partnerships in Higher Education, is the latest achievement at SUNY Fredonia to enhance opportunities for students to learn about other cultures.

U.S. and Mexican immigration policies explored Nov. 18

On Nov. 18, student organization Sigma Iota Rho, will host a presentation that focuses on U.S. immigration policies in Mexico. The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in S104 of the Williams Center. Dr. Alexander Caviedes of the department of Political Science will present information focusing on the effects of U.S. migration policies in Mexico. There will also be a keynote speaker, Ellen Calmus, who will discuss how Mexico’s rural areas have been affected by immigration

Annual International Education Week to Begin on November 7 with benefit for Oxfam America

A special "Hunger Banquet" will launch International Education Week at SUNY Fredonia on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. to raise money for Oxfam America, an international relief organization. The International Education Center has scheduled events all week for the campus and community, including information on study abroad programs, international issues, and cultural events.

Right-wing extremism in Austria is focus of Brown Bag on Nov. 1

On Monday, Nov. 1, in the second of the International Brown Bag Lunch series this fall, SUNY Fredonia Professor Daniela Peterka-Benton (Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice) will present findings of a recent research project on right-wing extremism in Austria. The talk begins at noon in Fenton Hall Room 105. All are welcome. Drinks are provided.

Child trafficking is the subject of guest lecture Nov. 3 sponsored by Amnesty International

Guest lecturer Benjamin Lawrance from Rochester Institute of Technology is giving the lecture, "Child Trafficking and the Asylum Process in the US and Beyond," as part of the SUNY Fredonia Amnesty International Chapter's series, 'Crises in Context: a lecture series addressing contemporary challenges in Africa.’

India's Lavanam to speak on Gandhian philosophy

Lavanam, a humanist, Gandhian, and atheist from India, will speak on Gandhian philosophy and milestones in his life on Thursday, Sept 23, at 7 p.m. in G26 McEwen Hall. Lavanam’s talk is titled, “Historical Perspective of Gandhi's Vision of the Future. The Role of Asia. Who Can Save the Future?” Lavanam, whose name means "salt" in the Sanskrit language, is an active Gandhian from India whom has participated and organized various social work projects, rehabilitation movements, and women empowerment reforms in his lifetime.

Heralding arrival of 40 students in 2012, Fredonia partners with South Korean university

SUNY Fredonia has signed an agreement with the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in South Korea that will ultimately bring 120 to 160 Korean students to the SUNY Fredonia campus each year to study for three of their traditional four years of college-level instruction. Beginning in the Spring 2012 semester, HUFS will send 40 students per year to the Fredonia campus to study as full-time students.
