The Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at SUNY Fredonia will be offering support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members. The group will meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 3:00 p.m. in Thompson Hall Room E148.
The Faculty Student Association is now accepting Program Account applications for the program year, which runs June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015. A new initiative of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has the potential to attract entrepreneurs and business veterans, which may even include alumni, back to Fredonia.“Start-Up NY,” is an unprecedented economic development plan designed to entice new and existing businesses to move to, return to, or expand within New York State — and SUNY campuses like Fredonia are at its heart.
Henrik Bothe and Woody Keppel are internationally renowned vaudevillians and veterans of film, television, radio and the stage. Under the stage name of Wells and Woodhead, they have performed for audiences on six continents — and they now return to unleash their antics at SUNY Fredonia’s Rockefeller Arts Center for the first time since 2009. The Kaleidoscope Family Series presents “Masters of Mayhem: Wells and Woodhead” on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre.
Area high school juniors interested in starting their college career early are invited to attend an informational meeting to learn about SUNY Fredonia’s 3-1-3 Program on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 7 p.m., in Room S204A of the Williams Center. The 3-1-3 program allows students to begin taking courses on campus at SUNY Fredonia as fully-admitted students during their senior year in high school.
For the 18 th consecutive year, the SEFA (State Employees’ Federal Appeal) campaign at SUNY Fredonia exceeded its goal. This year’s campaign netted $46,683.50, or nearly 1.5 percent above the 2013’s goal of $46,000.The annual campaign, which provides funding throughout the year to support health and human services agencies that serve people of all ages and backgrounds in this area as well as across the state, was supported by over 340 current and retired employees.
For the 23rd year, community volunteers, Information Technology Services at SUNY Fredonia, and DFT Communications have donated their time and expertise to bring Santa and Elf Holly to the homes of local viewers on Wednesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 19. Santa and Elf Holly are assisted in their North Pole television studio by a crew of TV and phone elves to provide this special holiday program for children.
Dan Berggren, retired communications professor who mentored numerous radio students, will be interviewed with his musical trio on the weekly campus radio program, High Noon Friday this week on Dec. 13 at noon. He will be interviewed and the trio will also perform on the program. He is in town for the concert at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
On Jan.1, SUNY Fredonia will join the growing list of colleges and universities across the U.S. who have adopted a tobacco-free campus policy. The policy prohibits all forms of tobacco and any nicotine delivery device, such as the smokeless e-cigarette.
The SUNY Fredonia Ski & Ride Club, a student organization, will be active this winter providing opportunities for students and faculty and staff who like to ski or snowboard. The club is sponsoring a trip to Killington Mountain Resort, Vermont, during the first full week of January, and regular trips to Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY next semester.
