New faculty and staff join campus community

The Fall 2013 semester begins with many new faces on campus and familiar faces with new job titles. Human Resources has released the names and titles of faculty and staff who are starting their first academic year at Fredonia or who have been promoted.

Campus electrician becomes instant tour guide for visiting family

There’s no telling when any of us will be unexpectedly called upon to serve as a Fredonia “ambassador,” and that’s just the role that campus Electrician Orion Purslow graciously accepted on Friday, Aug. 23. Though he’s only worked at SUNY Fredonia for four years, Purslow’s knowledge of the campus and the pride that he has for it made a strong impression on these two visitors, serving as a great reminder that we all can have a profound impact on tomorrow’s students — and leaders.

Calzone sales to benefit WNYF

WNYF-TV is teaming up with Calios, a new downtown Fredonia eatery that specializes in calzones, to raise money to help purchase new equipment for the campus television station. Calios, formerly known as Zonies and located at 13 E. Main, will donate 10 percent of all barbecue calzone sales between Saturday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 7, to the SUNY Fredonia station.

Susan Amatuzzo named director of Campus & Community Children's Center

At the Campus and Community Children’s Center, Susan Amatuzzo, '06, supervises a staff of 40 that provides programming, supervision and activities for up to 70 children, from eight weeks through 12 years of age. She succeeds longtime director Judy Metzger, who retired earlier this year. “The childcare center has always been the premier center in my eyes,” Ms. Amatuzzo said, “and I am proud to say that the childcare center is a part of our university.”

Campus woodlot cleanup set

You're invited to pitch in and help beautify the campus at the annual EDP-sponsored “Pick Up Litter” campaign on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the woodlot near the SUNY Fredonia entrance at Central Avenue.

Stroke and head injury support group announces Fall Semester meetings

The Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at SUNY Fredonia will be offering support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members. The group will meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in room E148 Thompson Hall unless otherwise stated.

Youngerman Center hosts Stroke Awareness Walk

The fourth annual Stroke Awareness Walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. The two-mile walk along Central Avenue starts and ends at the Youngerman Center in Thompson Hall. Free hearing screenings, educational handouts, and informational brochures will be offered to participants and members of the community.
