The Nov. 3 session will focus on canine therapy topics and feature research on how dogs help with physical therapy of young children and with military veterans in various recovery scenarios. The keynote talk, "Canine-Assisted Interventions: Benefits and Cautions," starts at 11 a.m. and is free. The afternoon workshop, $12, is about volunteer and internship opportunities in canine-assisted programs.
The SUNY Fredonia Student Association will be hosting "Rock the Vote 2012," a live music event with guest speakers on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 7 p.m. to midnight in Steele Hall.
With the general election just days away, SUNY Fredonia’s student-run improve theatre troupe Random Acts will perform “American President,” a parody that combines the drama and intrigue of the 2012 presidential campaigns with the glitz and glamor of the popular “American Idol” television program. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED AT A LATER DATE. Kevin Sylvester, host of Sabres Hockey Hotline on WGR Radio (550 AM), will speak to campus and community members on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Williams Center's Room 204E. The event is sponsored by the SUNY Fredonia chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Admission is free.
The fifth annual Fredonia for St. Jude “Up ‘Til Dawn” event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. in Steele Hall. With the Hollywood theme, “Lights, Camera, Cure!” the night will feature live music, contests, raffles, and general entertainment while students work on a letter campaign to raise funds for a hospital that provides free cancer treatment to children.
The last of two workshops on "yarnbombing" will be held Friday, Nov. 9, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. The event is free and intended to prepare the campus and community for a yarnbomb installation in the gallery in April.
Bill Roorbach, whose writing encompasses both fiction and non-fiction, will meet SUNY Fredonia students on Thursday, Nov. 1, as part of the English Department’s Mary Louise White Visiting Writers’ Series. Roorbach has authored eight books, including Big Bend, winner of the Flannery O’Connor Prize and the O’Henry Prize.
The School of Music and members of its Clarinet Studio will hold a benefit concert for Eleanor Seigel on Monday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Eleanor, the 8-month-old daughter of clarinet professor Andrew Seigel and flutist Nicole McPherson, was recently diagnosed with Infant Leukemia.
