Business Club selects Cutting Crew for 37th Annual Business Person of the Year award

The SUNY Fredonia Business Club will present its 37th Annual Business Person of the Year Award to Rita Canfora and Debbie Michalak, owners of the Cutting Crew beauty salon. The award ceremony will be Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office or at: www.fredonia.edu/tickets, until Feb. 26.

Enactus team works for economic progress in Belize

A team of SUNY Fredonia’s Fred Global Enactus students traveled to Belize to begin their mission of empowering local artisans to improve their standard of living. The team formed strategic partnerships with the National Institute of Culture and History and the Rotary Club of Belize to help in this effort and support Belizean children’s education.

Wind Ensemble plans March tour

The Wind Ensemble at SUNY Fredonia, one of the School of Music’s premier ensembles, will perform in high schools across New York State during its spring tour. Buffalo, Brockport, Hilton, Schenectady and Guilderland Center are among destinations of the 44-student ensemble directed by Dr. Paula Holcomb.

Women's basketball clinches playoff berth

All five starters scored double figures as the Blue Devils defeated New Paltz, 81-59 last Saturday. The team's fourth-straight win, the victory also clinched a playoff berth. Now in fourth place with four games left, the team hosts its regular-season finale this weekend, when it plays host to Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday, for Senior Day.

Learning Center now hiring student tutors for next year

The College Tutoring Services (CTS) office, together with the Learning Center, the Full Opportunity Program, Disability Support Services for Students and the Educational Development Program, is now hiring students to join its tutoring staff for the 2014/2015 academic year. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 14 by 4 p.m.

Activites Night tonight in Steele Hall

The traditional SUNY Fredonia Activities Night will take place Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Steele Hall basketball arena. Over 120 student groups and activities will be represented, and students are welcome to browse the tables and sign up for clubs and organizations that interest them.

Opera composer Jake Heggie featured in Ethos New Music Society concert

World-renowned opera and art song composer Jake Heggie, whose residency at SUNY Fredonia opens the Ethos New Music Society’s 14th annual NewSound Festival, will be the guest conductor at a concert of his works performed by School of Music students and faculty at Rosch Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m.
