Akey, Aarim-Heriot chosen for CIEE International

Dr. Jessica Akey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, and Dr. Najia Aarim-Heriot, Associate Professor of the Department of History, have been selected to participate in the 2013 CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars. SUNY Fredonia’s VPAA/Provost has funded faculty participation in these seminars for the past three years.

Brenda Eaton and Robyn Reger, secretaries whose collective tenures at SUNY Fredonia span three decades, received coveted awards at the SUNY Fredonia Secretarial/Clerical Professional Development Group’s annual Fall Conference held Oct. 12 at the College Lodge.

Senior Meagan Allers selected by statewide trustees for scholarship; named Emerging Leader by SUNY

Meagan Allers, a senior, received the $1,000 Student Initiative Scholarship from the Association of Council Members and College Trustees at its statewide conference recently. She was also recently named a SUNY Emerging Leader, which singles outs students who have best demonstrated significant leadership within their campus and community based on one or more of SUNY’s six Big Ideas from the SUNY Strategic Plan.

Jessica Hillman's new book explores how the Holocaust has resonated on the American musical stage

Using examples from the American stage repertoire, Dr. Jessica Hillman has written a book that examines how the Holocaust resonated in popular musicals, and traces changing American attitudes towards it over the years. Through the book, Dr. Hillman has done pioneer analysis on the intersection of musical theatre and the difficulties of Holocaust representation in entertainment.

Andrew Cullison publishes research volume on epistemology

Dr. Andrew Cullison, assistant professor of Philosophy, is editor of the new book, The Continuum Companion to Epistemology, published in July by academic publisher Continuum, a Bloomsbury Company. The book is intended to be the definitive guide to a key area of contemporary philosophy, and covers all the fundamental questions asked by epistemology. Cullison also contributed to the volume.

Bond Benton awarded U.S. State Department contract, will travel to London

Recently, Dr. Bond Benton was awarded a contract with the U.S. State Department to develop a training program for advocacy, persuasion, and presentation skills for the U.S. Embassy in London. The project will also include sponsored research on identifying culturally appropriate messaging strategies for Foreign Service Officers and facilitating programming with Embassy leaders.

Music Business program head Armand Petri inducted into Buffalo Music Hall of Fame

Producer, engineer, composer and musician Armand Petri, head of the SUNY Fredonia's Music Business program, was one of 12 people into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 4. Working with artists such as the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, and Sixpence None the Richer, Petri’s accolades include several gold and platinum records, a Dove Award, and song placement in television and film.
