Comics coming to campus Feb. 19

Judah Friedlander, proclaimed by “30 Rock” creator and co-star Tina Fey as “one of the all-time greatest weirdos,” will treat local audiences to his engaging and crowd-pleasing stand-up humor at King Concert Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. Also appearing are comedians Jermaine Fowler and Kevin Barnett, who can be seen on shows such as MTV's "Guy Code" and "College Humor." The event is sponsored by the Student Association and is suggested for mature audiences.

WNY Chamber Orchestra to premiere new work Feb. 9

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra will present the third program in its classics series, “Song of the Earth,” featuring a world premier arrangement of Mahler’s beloved work, “Das Lied Von Der Erde, on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall at SUNY Fredonia. Guest vocal soloists will include Canadian mezzo soprano Lynne McMurtry and American Heldentenor Marc Deaton. The new truly “chamber” arrangement of the Mahler is the second arrangement of the work created by WNYCO Music Director and Conductor Glen Cortese.

Opera composer Jake Heggie featured in Ethos New Music Society concert

World-renowned opera and art song composer Jake Heggie, whose residency at SUNY Fredonia opens the Ethos New Music Society’s 14th annual NewSound Festival, will be the guest conductor at a concert of his works performed by School of Music students and faculty at Rosch Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m.

Welcome Week events kick off Spring term

Welcome Week, full of activities and events for students, will be hosted by Spectrum Entertainment Board and sponsored by the Student Association. All events begin at 7 p.m. and are free. Themed, "Through the Decades," each event will be based around a specific decade; the 1970s, ʼ80s, ʼ90's, or 2000s.

Campus will observe Energy Savings Schedule Dec. 21 through Jan. 1; details announced

Services and operations at SUNY Fredonia will be mostly curtailed for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in order to conserve utility costs. With the exception of a few offices, college buildings will be closed and heat reduced, beginning at the close of business on Friday, Dec. 20. Many facilities will re-open Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2014.

Dan Berggren to be guest artist on High Noon Friday Dec. 13

Dan Berggren, retired communications professor who mentored numerous radio students, will be interviewed with his musical trio on the weekly campus radio program, High Noon Friday this week on Dec. 13 at noon. He will be interviewed and the trio will also perform on the program. He is in town for the concert at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
