Guest artist to offer two dance classes for campus community

Kista Tucker, director of the Washington, D.C.-based Kista Tucker Insights, will teach a mixed level Modern Dance class on Friday, Sept. 20, from noon to 2 p.m., and on Thursday, Sept. 26, she will teach a Laban Movement class from 5 to 7 p.m., all in Dods Hall Room 148. Both events are free and open to the campus community.

Ethos presents student composers concert

The first Student Composers Concert of the new school year, featuring student instrumentalists and vocalists performing works by both undergraduate and graduate students, will be presented by Ethos New Music Society on Monday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

Izmir University of Economics professor to discuss condom ad campaign

Izmir University of Economics Professor Yesim Kaptan will give a presentation focused on how an advertising agency in Istanbul, Turkey, created an advertising campaign that constructed a new identity based on the intersections of race, discourse of disease and gender for Benetton condoms. The presentation -- the first of this semester's International Learning Brown Bag talks -- will take place on Monday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. in 127 Fenton Hall (a.k.a., the English Reading Room).

Keary Howard gives President's Award for Excellence talk Sept. 17

Dr. Keary Howard, winner of the 2013 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, will share his thoughts about students in his talk, “Fredonia for Life: A Transformative Learning Experience for All,” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall. “Together, as a university we, simply put, transform lives,” Howard explained. “Instead of spending time focused on my research, I wanted to talk about students, taking a look at them when they were with us, and then take a look at where they are now.”
