John Bacon, an adjunct instructor of percussion and alumnus of the Fredonia School of Music, has received a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellowship in Music/Sound. Only 3 percent of the applicants receive the prestigious honor.
The student group, Whitachoir, directed by graduate student Arthur Lewis, will join other choruses from around the world in a special residency program in New York City next March, culminating in special concert in Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall featuring the music of Eric Whitacre.

The Hillman Opera will present two performances of Gioachino Rossini’s famous work “La Cenerentola” (Cinderella) in November at SUNY Fredonia. It will be a staged concert version of the classic opera, sung in the original Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. Performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 in King Concert Hall.
When the opera, “La Cenerentola,” (Cinderella) is presented at SUNY Fredonia in November, it will represent a special milestone – 60 years of collaboration between the Hillman Memorial Music Association and the college.
