The Fredonia Guitar Quartet will soon be departing for a concert tour of Spain. This student guitar ensemble, directed by Music Professor James Piorkowski, has been invited to perform at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla (May 22nd), the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos de Segovia - a 15th-century palace in Nieva (May 24), and at the Universidad de Oviedo (May 26).
The Fredonia School of Music announced that guest artist Abou Sylla will give a drum workshop and Balafon concert in Mason Hall Room 1051 on Wednesday, May 20. The workshop starts at 6 and the concert at 8. Participants and listeners are invited to make a $20 donation for each event.
Eight of SUNY Fredonia’s best student vocalists will help bring the 2009 Commencement Eve pops concert, Bernstein on Broadway, to life on Friday, May 15. Selected through auditions held in March, they are Chelsea Grace Clasier, Rick Doetterl, Crystal Gramkee, Kate Mulberry, Mark Andrew Reeve, Amy E. Shake, Boris Van Druff, and Jason Weisinger.

The Fredonia Jazz Ensemble has produced its first studio album in 16 years. The 19-member group will unveil the CD, entitled, "Still Kickin'," at a special release concert and reception on Sunday, April 26, at 5 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall. During the past year the group took a hiatus from the spotlight to re-energize itself, and the result — “Still Kickin’” — has garnered considerable praise even before its planned release.
