Selected works of art seniors showing in Art Gallery through Dec. 9

Selected works by students in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia will be on display in the art gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center starting Friday, Dec. 3. The Senior Show exhibition will open with a Dec. 3 reception in the art gallery lobby from 7 to 9 p.m. It runs through Dec. 9.

Orchesis Dance Co. presents concert Friday night

“Pandora’s Box,” a dance concert featuring 10 student-choreographed pieces along with two guest-choreographed selections, will be presented by the Orchesis Dance Company of SUNY Fredonia on Friday, Dec. 3, 8 p.m., at King Concert Hall. The production involves 50 students who will perform a wide variety of dance styles, including tap, jazz, contemporary and ballet.

Cabaret Night to raise money in fight against AIDS Wed.

"Cabaret Night," an AIDS awareness and fundraising event, will be held at The Spot in the Williams Center on Wednesday, Dec. 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will include improv performances by students in song, monologue and dance. Also, The Buster Brown Bean Company will be offering drink specials, with the proceeds of those specials being donated to the national Broadway Cares/ Equality Fights AIDS campaign (BC/EFA).

Next "Brown Bag" on Dec. 1 takes the creative process past the premiere

Joining the Arts & Humanities Brown Bag Series’ year-long exploration of creativity, SUNY Fredonia Assistant Professors of Music Rob Deemer and Andrew Seigel, together with SUNY Fredonia students Michael Mendoza and Isaac Tayrien, will give a talk entitled, “From ‘What if…?’ to ‘What next?’: Taking the Creative Process Past the Premiere.”

Performing Arts Company challenges social perceptions of beauty in the play, "Fat Pig"

SUNY Fredonia’s Performance Arts Company (PAC) will perform an experimental version of “Fat Pig” Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The story follows a typical, good-looking business man who falls in love with a plus-size librarian. The man experiences doubt and personal challenges due to the judgments of friends and onlookers who form an inconsistency in the compatibility of the couple based on outward appearances. Ultimately, he is forced to choose between love or his friends' acceptance.

Concert Band will perform classical and contemporary works Thursday

The SUNY Fredonia Concert Band will give its final concert of the semester Thursday, November 18, at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall under the direction of Erin Otto Meissner.The program, entitled “Classics and Contemporaries,” includes works by Shostakovich, Bach, and Offenbach, and concludes with a set of tangos for wind band by contemporary American composers Michael Gandolfi and John Mackey.

New Horizons Band to give Forestville concert Nov. 17

The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a Fall Concert at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Forestville High School Auditorium in Forestville, NY. The concert is free, but the Forestville High School Band Council will be accepting food (non-perishable) and monetary donations for the Forestville Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry.
