Joseph second in 3K at YSU Icebreaker

Fredonia senior distance runner Merlin Joseph Jr. (Binghamton) finished second in the 3,000 meters at Friday's season-opening indoor track and field meet, the Youngstown State University Icebreaker.

'Pink The Rink:' Celebration of Survivors

The Fredonia campus community will celebrate cancer survivors this Saturday at its 12th annual Pink The Rink. This year's game pits the Blue Devils vs. the No. 4 Oswego Lakers at 7 p.m. in the Steele Hall Ice Arena. Pre-sale tickets are available Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dods Hall Prechtl Office Suite.

Overview of the collegiate student-athlete experience offered to area high school students

An introduction to the student-athlete experience in college awaits area students as part of National Girls & Women in Sports Day at Fredonia on Saturday, Feb. 3. “We’re gearing the event toward middle and high school athletes and their families who are interested in learning about the college athletics recruitment process, what it’s like to be a student-athlete in college, and how to best prepare while in high school,” said Rebekah Conti, assistant director of Pre-College Outreach at Fredonia.

Devils rally behind Polachek's two goals

Bobby Polachek scored the tying and winning goals Sunday in a 5-4 Fredonia men's hockey overtime win over SUNY Canton in the consolation game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational.

Baumann solid in home opener

Alyson Baumann turned in another strong effort in the Fredonia women's swimming and diving team home opener on Nov. 18. Bauman won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:24.21 and the 500 free in 5:30.44. She was also credited with a first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and a third place in the 100 free in 56.47.

Jones and Krasnek win twice

In the Devils' home opener, Graham Jones (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) was a double winner and Christian Krasnek (Springville/Springville) won off both boards. Jones won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.45 and the 500 free in 5:08.68. Krasnek posted NCAA qualifying scores for zones off both boards.

Strong finish

Tied at 54, the Fredonia women's basketball team finished on an 11-3 run to defeat Penn State Behrend, 65-57, at the Allegheny College Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 18. Senior Jacque Law converted 7 of 8 free throws over the final 2:12 and finished with 21 points. Jenna Einink added 19 points and Alisha Szuimgala had 12. Law and Einink both grabbed 8 boards to lead the team.

New Director of Athletics and Recreation named

Gerald R. Fisk will become the new Director of Athletics and Recreation at Fredonia, effective Dec. 13. His appointment, the result of a national search which began over the summer, was announced by Fredonia Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Cedric Howard.

Poirier, Christopher named All-Region

Seniors Courtney Poirier (West Seneca/West Seneca West) and Hallie Christopher (West Seneca/West Seneca West) were named to the AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention Team on Thursday. Both were named to the All-SUNYAC Team earlier this week.
