About the Area:

The State University of New York at Fredonia Tuba Studio has been growing steadily for the past decade and we welcome you to audition and join our ranks.

Providing the core of the Tuba Studio experience are weekly private lessons, 50 minutes in length, and members in a large ensemble (band or orchestra). From there, any number of groups can be formed on an experimental or quasi-permanent basis. Tuba quartet, Tuba/Euphonium quartet, Brass Quintet, to name a few. Additionally, a mass Tuba and Euphonium ensemble is formed for seasonal holiday performances in December and other special musical events including the weekly Recital Seminar course.

Material prepared for private lessons is assigned week to week and usually consists of a solo (chosen in consultation with me), and two contrasting etudes, one in a legato and one in a technical style. The solo (with accompaniment) is prepared over the length of the semester and performed for a grade in the semester’s culminating performance - the brass jury - during finals week.

Many students in the Tuba Studio find it to be a musically rewarding experience and use it as touchstone for further musical exploration of their ability on the tuba and beyond. At Fredonia’s School of Music, you are limited only by your imagination!
