FREDONIA Preschool / UPK Extension Program

8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday (11:30 am start for UPK Extension students)
Wheelock Primary School Room 308

75 Chestnut Street, Fredonia, NY 14063
September - June

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Extension program was created because NYS recognized the need for preschool but did not take into account that half day programs do not meet the care needs of many working families. In 2016, the center expanded the classroom hours to accommodate additional requests for full day preschool care.

The Wheelock classroom is licensed by NY State Office of Children & Family Services to serve 14 children daily; however we must have at least 11 full time children to run a successful program. This program runs 41 weeks, beginning the first day of public school and lasting until the last day of public school.

Experienced classroom teachers provide an engaging curriculum filled with child—centered activities and experiences that follow the interests of the children, promote pro-social skills, and align with the Preschool Learning Standards.  Activities include daily outdoor games and use of the playground, gym, creative art exploration, story time, dramatic play, and much more. The children take walking field trips around the village of Fredonia including the Barker Darwin Library, Russell Joy Park and various other local sites.

*A nutritious breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided. Bag lunch is needed daily.

*Each family will be provided a program calendar, informative handbook and support from knowledgeable staff.

Parent / teacher conferences are conducted in late fall and spring to set goals, discuss progress and review the child’s portfolio.
